Procedure:
1) Right click on your desktop and choose "New=>shortcuts".
2) In the box that says "Type the location of the shortcut"
type "shutdown -s -t 100" without the quotation marks and click next.
(100 is time in second, you can give any value for that)
3) Give a name for the shortcut.
4) Double click to activate timer.
TO ABORT: (while the timer is running)
1) Create another shortcut and make the "location of the shortcut" to "shutdown -a" without the quotes.
2) Double click to deactivate timer.

When we are in a hurry to shut down our computer, it will be closing very slowly. This tweak reduces the time XP waits before automatically closing any running programs when you give it the command to shutdown. Here is the trick..,
Go to Start then select Run
Type 'Regedit' and click ok
Find 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\'
Select 'WaitToKillAppTimeout'
Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000'Click 'OK'
Select 'HungAppTimeout'
Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000' Click 'OK'
Go to Start then select Run
Type 'Regedit' and click ok
Find 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\'
Select 'WaitToKillAppTimeout'
Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000'Click 'OK'
Select 'HungAppTimeout'
Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000' Click 'OK'
